The job of the nervous system is to send and receive information. It controls and communicates throughout the rest of the body. The main organs of the nervous system are the brain and the spinal cord.
The brain functions to keep your memory. The brain is connected to most everything in your body. Information is sent from all body systems to the brain.
The spinal cord helps you keep balance.
Some diseases of this system are; Brain Tumor. A brain tumor is an abnormal growth of tissue in the brain. The tumor can either originate in the brain itself, or come from another part of the body and travel to the brain. Some symptoms may include: headache, vomiting (usually in the morning), nausea, personality changes, irritability drowsiness, depression, decreased cardiac and respiratory function and, eventually coma if not treated. You can treat t this by: having Surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy .Another diseases is Ataxia. Persons who are diagnosed with ataxia experience a failure of muscle control in their arms and legs which may result in a lack of balance, coordination, and possibly a disturbance in gait. Some symptoms are: slurring of speech, wide-based gait, difficulty with writing and eating, and slow eye movements. At this time there is no cure for the hereditary ataxias. There is also no medication currently available which treats the specific symptom of ataxia.
Another disease is Bell's Palsy. Bell's palsy is an unexplained episode of facial muscle weakness or paralysis that begins suddenly and worsens over three to five days. Some symtoms are: drooling, loss of feeling in the face, and headaches. To cure this you might want to use: steroid medications - to reduce inflammation, or physical therapy to stimulate the facial nerve.
Other systems it works with
The Skelatal sytemt o provide calcium that is essential for the proper functioning of the nervous system.
The Muscular system because receptors in muscles provide the brain with information about body position and movement.
The Encrodine system because hormones provide feedback to the brain to affect neural processing.
Fun Facts:
There are more nerve cells in the human brain than there are stars in the Milky Way.
If we lined up all the neurons in our body it would be around 600 miles long.
As we get older, the brain loses almost one gram per year.
